RE: Generator bogging when A/C is turned on

NOW you can track down the problem which can be the gen, A/C, wiring or other appliances. Observe all safety precautions or get help.

RE: Generator bogging when A/C is turned on

Buy this Clampon Meter and measure the amps. Never leave home without it and you'll be a happy camper. Your A/C should draw about 15A and it's input voltage should be 108V+ when running.

RE: Leveling Scissor Jacks

Not sure why you read that - Perhaps inadequate frame support? A scissor jack is a type of leveling jack. Why 45 deg? If 10K rating is adequate you'll need larger rating for 45 deg.

RE: 12v wire thickness

Goog suggestion but I've never seen 4/O jumper cables, maybe from a tow truck? Check jumper cablles as you want solid copper and notf copper coated alumiinum, 4' will limit the cost,

RE: 12v wire thickness

I would not route inverter power via the shunt or buss bars (extra connections between the battery and inverter). Make it as direct & short as possible, just protection. Without the inverter on the shunt the battery monitor would not be very accurate. My shunt is rated at 500A 50mV hence very limited voltage drop considering its 25mV at 250A. Plus connections of course.

RE: Ugh, Camping World strikes again

Not sure why you went to CW to begin with. Lesson learned. But the next time you need chassis work go to Hendersons Lineup in Grants Pass, OR which isn't that far from your home town.

RE: 12v wire thickness

At 250A direct and short as possible. BTW 250A is marginal for 4/O wire.

Especially unseen corrosion on connectors near flooded batteries.

RE: Need AK-friendly full-time fifth wheel! Ideas?

BTW We kept a 6' red leash with harness on our cat when traveling or moving the slides so that we would know where he was. Our cat easily adapted and it was a non issue. Litter box in the closet with the door propped open 6". He rarely got the leash caught on something.

RE: 12v wire thickness

You adapt to the situation. For example my 3x serial solar panels at 92V and with 62' of 10ga wire have a 0.4% voltage drop to the controller. One of the reasons I didn't wire them in parallel. The second major reason is shadow performance which is another topic.

RE: 12v wire thickness

Voltage drop is absolutely dependent upon wire size and length. A 5% drop for 12,7V is 0.6V which means a 12V battery would be 12.1V. More than I'd want. There are various wire calculators availabke.

RE: Need AK-friendly full-time fifth wheel! Ideas?

The Kenai Peninsula is fantastic beautiful area so congratulations on that choice. My first and only choice would be a New Horizons FW which are custom made in Junction City, KS. They are custom build quality units that are second to none IMHO. You might find a used one that meets your requirements. Yes they will be higher priced. Hopefully pianotuna who has spent winters in Canada with his RV will chime in and offer ideas. Or locate a post and PM him. And some other posters have spent winters in a RV...

RE: do you FLAT TOW your WL Grand Cherokee?????

There was a lot of information and problems posted associated with EPS. For earlier years Jeep developed a harness kit that kept EPS on while towing for earlier models than yours. Strongly suggest you go to the iRV2 forum and see what you can find...:h

RE: 2005 Safari Simba Hot Water heater 120 volt Electric

Check the AC voltage at the heater, if OK relplace the heater. Other wise trace back to where you have voltage to isolate the problem. Be safe - If you're not trained on AC hire a mobile tech.

RE: Electrical Question-Breaker panel does not cut all power

My full battery diconnect switch and shunt. It's on the negative post which should always be disconnect first and reconnected last to minimize a possible postive post short to ground. Think using a wrench on the bolts. http://i.imgur.com/eGWI3um.jpg

RE: Flat towing with your truck camper

A non collapsed tow bar will not prevent the two vehicles colliding giving the right conditions.

RE: LA Transit Alternatives

Dedmiston, Coming from Seattle area. Planning to stop in Stockton first night. I'll get some details on the truck/trailer weights etc. But as I recall weight and braking etc are not a problem. I've sent her the Mountain Directory West information of all the passes with the Siskiyou, Grapevine and Tehachapi being the most grade/distance. Thanks for your input.

RE: Flat towing with your truck camper

In the US you have to meet the towing laws from every state you travel in regardless of your resident state. And there are 50 states. And is a toad a trailer with regards to towing?
